Overview
Welcome to Korea University Physics Department.
The department of physics was established in 1953 and since then we have been leading the fundamental research steadily. Based on this basic research, we have produced world-class physicists and research results.
Physics is a branch of science with the study on fundamental principle in various matter and phenomena in nature. Therefore, it includes the study of interactions of elementary particles, study of nuclei, quantum nature of atoms, fundamental studies on condensed matter, optical physics, and it statistical study, nonlinear physics of biological objects, and physics of very early universe.
Therefore, in the department of physics we have faculty members of particle and nuclear physics, atomic physics, condensed matter physics, statistical physics, optical physics, non-linear and biophysics, and cosmology.
In the undergraduate course, the main focus of our education is given to learn ability to solve various problems from fundamental principles only. This is of the prime importance to not only those you continue studying physics in the graduate school but also those who enter into new field after graduation, and maximize the ability in their work.
In addition to that, we are making efforts to add recent fields such as machine learning and quantum computing to departmental classes, and to research field. This will enable us to solve complex problem in nature as well as in society to contribute to the society.
