Assistant Professor of Physics Jaehyeok Yoo is an experimental particle physicist interested in searching for new physics signatures at the Large Hadron Collider (LHC). He obtained B.S. and M.S. degrees from Korea University in 2007 and 2009, respectively, and Ph.D. in experimental particle physics from UC San Diego in 2014. He developed a new analysis technique for the Higgs search in H->WW channel for his Ph.D. thesis. Before joining Korea University in 2019, he was a postdoc at UC Santa Barbara working on Supersymmetry (SUSY) searches and detector operations/studies. Research Interests His primary interest is searching for new phenomena at the LHC. Given the lack of evidence for physics beyond the Standard Model, he is focusing on more unconventional signatures, particularly, in the events without missing transverse energy (MET). He has been leading a SUSY search without MET in the Compact Muon Solenoid (CMS) experiment. He is also leading a group studying the performance of the CMS Hadron Calorimeter. In addition, he has been participating in the newly proposed milliQan experiment that searches for fractional charge particles at the LHC.
